Barrett Steel in training for two Tough Mudder Challenges/bs057 / 23.05.14
If you were asked to run over 10 miles in mud with ‘hard core' obstacles in your way, would you volunteer? Over thirty enthusiastic employees atBarrett Steel, the UK's largest independent steel stockholder, have risen to the challenge and are currently in training for two Tough Mudder events later this year. Their aim is to raise £16,000 for two worthy causes, Macmillan Cancer Support and Tristan's Target.
Macmillan Cancer Support, for whom Barrett raised over £7,000 at a February charity sports dinner, provides an invaluable service, ensuring that no-one has to face cancer alone.
Tristan's Target is a cause that is close to home. Barrett employee, Keith Hill, who works at the company's Oldham depot, is hoping to raise £30,000 through the Tree of Hope charity. His grandson, four year old Tristan Dawe, needs a life changing operation to help him walk. Tristan was born nine weeks prematurely and suffers from cerebral palsy, making everyday tasks including walking near impossible. Through the challenge Barrett Steel is hoping to make a considerable amount of money to make this little boy's life easier.
Two teams will take up the challenge on two separate days, with employees, David Godfrey and Liam Dale, taking part in both events at Broughton Hall, Yorkshire on 2 August and Cholmondeley Estate, Cheshire on 13 September.

About Tough Mudder
Tough Mudder is a hardcore event that tests strength, stamina and mental grit. The course comprises a 10-12 mile run in mud with numerous obstacles throughout, including Electric Eel, Trench Warfare and Cage Crawl. All obstacles are designed to push mental and physical strength to the limit.
According to the websitehttps://toughmudder.co.uk‘Tough Mudder is the premier obstacle course series in the world'. Will it hurt at times? Highly likely, but that won't stop Barrett's two teams pushing boundaries and overcoming numerous obstacles to reach the finishing line. Above all they know they can work as a team - and have a lot of fun into the bargain.
