The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers’ index has shown that the housing sector saw its 15^th month of growth in a row in April, the best sustained run on record since 2006/2007, and a figure which many experts believe has had the knock-on effect of boosting the construction sector.

The survey found that there was a sharp increase in new business start-ups and the number of people employed by construction companies in the United Kingdom.

Tim Moore, Markit senior economist, said, “Residential building was the fastest growing area of UK construction activity, with the latest expansion correlating with at least 45,000 new housing starts per quarter.

“Set against the tightening supply chain backdrop, a difficult challenge lies ahead for the housebuilding sector to make sure it doesn’t hit a ‘brick ceiling’.”
