SUNDAE ROAST - ON THE MENU IN COOKS & KIDS TOO
A roast dinner served up in an ice cream sundae glass is just one of the startling tasty treats created when children and top chefs got together to produce Cooks & Kids Too - the second edition of the Cooks & Kids recipe and nutrition book for children and teenagers.
Also on the menu this time are such delights as Carrot and Cream Muffins, Coffee Kisses and Nana's Mouldy Cheesecake.
Cooks & Kids is the brainchild of the National Fostering Agency Group (NFA), one of the most experienced and long established fostering agencies in the United Kingdom. The aim is to improve children's knowledge and understanding of nutrition and healthy eating, while at the same time having plenty of fun. The NFA is also highlighting the crucial need to encourage more people to come forward as foster carers.
Among the leading chefs taking part in this edition are Rick Stein, James Martin and Sophie Dahl. Also involved were the team of chefs from De Vere Venues, lead by Group Executive Chef, John Woodward. The recipes were submitted by children looked after by NFA and the birth children of some of the Group's fantastic foster care families
All the Royalties from the sale of Cooks & Kids Too will be going to Place2Be, the leading UK provider of school-based mental health support for children.Iain Anderson, chiuef executive of the NFA Group, said: "Cooks & Kids was born out of a passion for food and a fun way to engage children and young people in all the wonderful tastes and combinations you can find on a plate.
"As a result of the publication of the first edition, four of the young people involved are now studying to enter the hospitality industry. We feel that is a wonderful demonstration of how this initiative has helped us in our aims of improving the quality of life for the children and young people in our care."
"Once again we are indebted to so many people who became involved in the project on a time and talent basis. This second edition was produced with the wonderful involvement of cooks, carers, photographers and many more."
The pictures contained in the 112 pages of Cooks & Kids Too clearly demonstrate the fun that children can have in a kitchen. Sessions were carried out in kitchens at venues in England and Scotland, hosted by De Vere Venues.
Added Iain Anderson: "Once again the photo shoots produced surprises and many memorable moments. The buzz and the atmosphere was wonderful - and the proof of the puddings and other dishes was certainly in the eating!"
