OSB saves a Victorian giraffe house
Pictured is the Victorian giraffe house that has been refurbished
using Norbord's Sterling OSB
When Queen Victoria was given a giraffe as a State gift in c. 1875, it was instantly clear that Buckingham Palace was not an ideal place to house it! She gave the beautiful animal to her postilion rider as a thank-you for his services over the years.
He lived in the Bovingdon area of Hertfordshire and built a custom-sized "stable" for his precious cargo. Obviously, the structure had fallen into disrepair since the Victorian age and has recently been refurbished using Sterling OSB hidden in the internal structure of the building.
The owner of the home today explains "We considered using plywood, hardwood and Sterling OSB; we opted for the latter as it was perfect for the job at hand - strong and inexpensive. We have to look after our giraffe house after all!"
