Barrett Steel boosts investment in Ireland to £7.5m with purchase of Maghaberry site/bs058 / 03.06.14

[image][image]Barrett Steelhas boosted its investment in Ireland to almost £7.5 million with the purchase of the warehouse and business unit at the Barrett Steel Ireland site in Maghaberry, Northern Ireland. The five acre, 30,000 square foot site is the location of the main processing centre for Barrett Steel Ireland offering cutting, drilling, shotblasting and priming.

Rob Ridge, Barrett Steel's Commercial Development Director, explains: "The purchase of the site from which we are currently operating underlines our continuing investment and commitment to the Irish market.

"We have increased our workforce by 20% with the launch of Barrett Engineering Steel Ireland at the Maghaberry site and we will add new people, stocks and machinery as the business grows."

Rob Ridge continues: "The purchase is part of our strategic plan - we want to be known by every steel user in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland."

News of the investment closely follows the announcement that Barrett Steel Ireland has been accredited with the CE Standard relating to the Construction Products Directive and Structural Steels. The award is part of the Barrett Steel Group's aim to gain three key awards throughout its 42 companies, including CE Marking, ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001.

Despite challenging times in the industry Barrett Steel reported a near 50% increase in pre-tax profits as sales increased for the financial year to September 2013.
