PRESS RELEASE
Local Dental Nurse makes it through to Finals of National Dental Awards!
Local scout cub leader, business woman, mother to two children, Wincanton based Faye Scammell may soon have another title to add to that list - 34 year old Faye is a Finalist in the prestigious National Dental Awards for her role as Dental Nurse at Winning Smiles Dental Practice.
Faye has worked at Winning Smiles for 16 years and it comes as no surprise that she also wears various hats in her working life as well including Dental Nurse, Receptionist and Practice Manager. However, it is the role of Dental Nurse that will see her join other national finalists when the winner is announced at a gala dinner, held at the exclusive Lancaster London Hotel on Friday, 6 June.
Faye comes from a very caring background and previously worked in a care home before joining Winning Smiles aged 18 and becoming Practice Manager at 22. Subsequently she has gone on to have a young family including a child with special needs which means she has returned to Winning Smiles part time and also fits in helping run the family business in Wincanton, John Porter Ltd (MOT Centre) with husband Shane.
The owner of Winning Smiles, Murray Hawkins comments: "Faye has an infectious laugh and is someone who is universally adored by patients and staff alike. She has a unique ability to view any situation through someone else's eyes and when Faye walks into our building any tension disappears as she walks by. Faye has been at the practice for 16 years and during that time has never upset or fallen out with any of the staff or patients. She is universally respected and voluntarily handles the staff rotas for the practice - no easy task for a practice of 20 people, most of whom are part-time, yet her decisions are always respected by our staff and this process always runs smoothly."
Faye has demonstrated a real commitment to the dentally underprivileged and is determined to challenge inequality in healthcare. She is a key figure in the Winning Smiles Support for Schools Programme and regularly visits local schools and youth clubs in the area to talk about the importance of oral hygiene together with a giant toothbrush, a friendly furry alligator and a blow up dental chair.
Faye's response on hearing she had been nominated for the Best Dental Nurse Award: "I am so delighted to be in the Final for this Award and would like to thank the team I work with and all the fantastic patients for putting me forward and giving me such glowing testimonials. "
As well as Faye reaching the Finals of the Dental Awards, founder of Winning Smiles, Murray Hawkins is up for Best Dentist of the Year and the Winning Smiles team is also a Finalist for Best Team.
