Google Panda Algorithm 4.0 is good news, according to experts

RS Internet Marketing, a UK heavyweight in the digital marketing sector, believes that recently rolled out Google algorithm changes will help websites that play by the rules and deliver quality content to stand out from the crowd

Last week Google introduced upgrades to Google Panda, one of its most significant search engine algorithms.

The changes were announced by Matt Cutts, Google software engineer and head of search spam, who stated on May 23 that, “Google is rolling out our Panda 4.0 update starting today.”

The update has already made waves in the search engine optimisation sector, with a number of high profile websites losing some of their rankings, including eBay and Ask.

While Google is known to introduce refreshes on a month to month basis, Google Panda is one of their most significant algorithms and changes to it are usually considerable, regularly causing many websites and web pages across the internet to rise or fall.

The algorithm was created to favour websites with unique content, tackling sites that use low quality content, as Google believes that users want uniqueness rather than copied or ‘spammy’ text designed solely to help websites climb higher in search engines.

Since launching in February 2011, Panda has undergone almost 30 confirmed updates. Although many experts suspect that number may be low as Google ceased announcing updates in March of last year.

It’s thought that Panda 4.0, in spite of being described as a “softer update”, has affected around 10% of all searches in the English language.

Responding to the news, RS Internet Marketing, a company specialising in search engine optimisation, said that the change is welcome news to people in the industry.

A representative for RS Internet Marketing said: “The change seems to be a positive one, with many huge websites that have had a monopoly on search engine rankings being punished for the way in which they’ve been attempting to optimise their pages.

“This is great news for smaller businesses, particularly in the ecommerce sectors, as it makes it easier to compete with large online stores such as eBay and Amazon which traditionally have ranked very well for a wide range of individual products on the strength of their domain and website strength.

“However, if you believe you’ve been adversely affected by the changes then we can help you to recover your previous standing. We use ethical, Google-friendly techniques to get our clients to the top of search engines and help them stay there.”
