LED Light for Consumer Units Ensure Safe Reset of Tripped Breakers
LED Light for Consumer Units Ensure Safe Reset of Tripped Breakers
The days of looking for a torch with working batteries when the lights go out due to a tripped circuit breaker are truly numbered thanks to CPN-Cudis. The circuit protection specialist has developed an illuminated LED strip that is activated when the cover of the consumer unit is opened. This makes access and resetting the affected breaker simple and safer especially for users with sight impairment or mobility difficulties and who are particularly vulnerable when a circuit breakers trips.
The illuminated LED strip can be specified pre-installed in CPN brand 17th Edition and other consumer units in the range. Activated by a micro switch when the cover is opened, the low power six light LED strip has an integral long-life battery that is easily accessed for replacement.
Peter O’Neill, business manager for CPN-Cudis explained, “Consumer units are very often hidden away under stairs, in cupboards or in other dark locations. The householder usually needs to find a working torch to see which MCB has tripped. The new LED strip is simple to install by anyone with basic DIY skills, though social housing landlords may want this to be done by an electrician. This is an ideal task to specify within upgrade programmes to local council or private properties that can make a big difference to the safety and convenience of occupiers.”
The LED strips are available nationwide via the CPN-Cudis stockist network. A video has been produced to illustrate the problem when lights fail and improvements in access and safety the LED strips make in identifying a tripped MCB, RCD or RCBO that has failed. Dedicated web pages with more information can be seen on the web at www.cudis-led.co.uk where details of the nearest CPN-Cudis stockist can also be found.
“We think that this development will be of greatest benefit to the vulnerable, but any consumer will appreciate the greater convenience and speed that it will provide. We have electricians qualified to 17th Edition codes on hand to assist over the telephone any installers or wholesalers who need advice with any aspect of LED strip application,” Peter concluded.
