The Pendle Pig – a leading Hog Roast Caterer operating across the Northwest of England talk of their praise for an animal that they normally serve to guests, after hearing the story of Brogan, the south Reno, Nevada kunekune pig that bravely saved both of his seven month old piglet sons from a serious barn fire this month.
The accident occurred following the unexpected spontaneous combustion of wet grain stored in a barn located on his owners Monte Vista Drive premises, an animal rescue shelter. The resulting blaze destroyed the barn, used to home animals and to store their feed, but not before the pig’s assertive and loyal decision to evacuate his offspring to safety.
Until this event, the poor pig named Brogan had been labelled ‘a bit of an underachiever’ but now his act of bravery has earned him a new lease of respect amongst local residents, his owners and rescue departments across the county. Owner Tommie Campbell spoke of Brogan the pigs’ new found respect:
"Brogan's Legacy has lived up to his name by protecting his next generation, leaving us surprised, relieved, and humbled," Campbell explained, calling him a hero. "He is some pig."
Learning of this humbling act has spread like wild fire (no pun intended) across neighbouring states, adding to the viable intelligence of pigs and their determination to protect their young. Brogan, who is officially named Brogan’s Legacy after a famous Irish whiskey and his partner, another kunekune pig named Bailey’s Irish Cream, shortened to ‘Bailey’ had been introduced two years ago but spent a while before breeding.
A spokesperson for The Pendle Pig spoke affectionately after hearing the story, stating:
“This news story touched our hearts and minds as we heard of one pig’s determination to shield his offspring from a dangerous fire and fulfil his destiny to be a father, preserving his legacy by saving the piglets. Although we have a close relationship with pigs, it is for very different reasons unfortunately, however we believe that any such act of valour deserves recognition universally; Brogan the pig is an out and out credit to his owners and we offer him a big thumbs up!”
The Pendle Pig believes that this one example should most certainly avoid the chopping block and has truly earned his place a family pet for the foreseeable future. As they continue to offer some of the finest catering solutions for weddings, anniversaries, corporate events and more, the staff at The Pendle Pig doth their caps to Brogan and his achievements and for more information on hiring their Hog Roast services they can be visited at www.hogroastslancashire.co.uk now.
