Internationally acclaimed experiential agency, M, has taken a traditional 1970's style office block and transformed it into exciting and contemporary offices that will act as a platform to support the company's on-going significant growth. The building has been completely redesigned to reflect the working practice of the company and to be equally welcoming to staff, clients, partners and suppliers. M's new headquarters has been renamed to reflect this philosophy. The new name is ‘Home House'.
John Young, M's creative director, led the redesign together with his senior creative, Julie McGarry. "The first thing we noticed about the building" he explains, "is the enormous amount of glass and this provides a really light and airy space. We decided to harness this and protect it on every level so essentially it became a fundamental component of the design. The result is that wherever you are in the building, whether looking out towards the square at the front or across the river at the back, you reap the benefits."
Julie was responsible for deciding how the building could best be put to work. "We wanted to create somewhere that, from the outset, would reflect M's unique personality, she explains. "The layout lent itself well to being divided up into sections to correspond to the services we deliver. Each floor was given a fresh, modern look but also its own unique identity with a bespoke colour scheme and specific style of fixtures and fittings. We then went further, using the architectural features of the building to create a North Wing, South Wing and the Glass House. The final important step was to consider each area in detail to ensure it would meet the needs of the team moving in and, critically, facilitate the way they choose to work."
Home House contains a suite of meeting rooms that range in style and size to suit all requirements and to meet the needs of visiting clients. It also has spaces where the whole business can come together, one of which is the café on the ground floor and there is also a large reception area which can be used to showcase temporary art exhibitions.
"The idea behind this" Young continues, "was to keep that space ever-changing. We want to have temporary art displays perhaps from someone we are working with - that may be from the UK or an international client, or we might spot a local artist that would benefit from being featured."
The move to Home House marks a significant step for M and, importantly, allows significant room for physical growth. The company has recently been awarded a series of important new government and sports-based contracts that will both create new roles within the company and ensure their work remains on a world stage for the foreseeable future.
