Automated Drill Speeds Bay Plastics' Production 

North Shields-based Bay Plastics Ltd are plastic stockists, fabricators and formists, producing finished plastic sheets and rods for industrial and commercial applications. A recent large project required holes to be accurately positioned and drilled in plastic sheets, within a very tight time scale prior to shipment. The company attempted to meet the agreed deadline by organising extra shifts, but it quickly became apparent that the additional man power would not be able to cope. 

Bay Plastics contacted their local Thorite Sales and Service Centre in North Shields, requesting urgent help to provide a solution. Thorite is the UK's biggest independent distributor ofpneumatic products and process systems and decided to send in one of their specialist Sales Engineers, accompanied by an expert from Desoutter, a global manufacturer which provideselectric and pneumatic tool solutions, covering a wide range of assembly and manufacturing processes. 

The visit resulted in Thorite recommending and supplying a Desoutter auto feed drill model AFDE400-5250, complete with clamps and mountings, which was quickly installed. Once in operation the new equipment increased production threefold, enabling the original deadline to be met.
