Premier Electrics one of several Irish firms to play leading role in delivery of flagship Primark store in Berlin
Taoiseach Enda Kenny opens new store in Berlin amidst fanfare and praises Bellaghy contractor as one of trio of Irish companies
Leading commercial electrical installation company Premier Electrics has completed an electrical fit-out at Primark's new flagship store in Europe.
The Mid-Ulster company spent 21 weeks carrying out installation work at the store in the world famous Alexanderplatz in Berlin.
Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny officially opened the store, Primark's second outlet in the German capital and praised Irish companies including Premier who had helped to deliver the project. Main contractor on the project was Mullingar-based company Bennett Construction. Joint Managing Director, Paul Bruton said: "We are delighted to have delivered another landmark project for Primark in Germany. It is yet another successful partnership with Premier Electrics with whom we have formed an excellent working relationship."
Tommy McKenna, Operations Manager for Premier in Europe and Ireland, explained the company has worked with Primark on many store refurbishments and new builds over the years but the new Berlin store is "simply superb".
The 56,300 sq ft store covers three floors and houses fashion for women, men and children as well as jewellery, shoes, accessories and a selection of goods for the home.
Premier's role in the project covered the installation of lighting, power, data, fire alarms, a PA/VA system, CCTV, emergency lighting, a generator and a digital AV pack.
Providing feature lighting for glass block floors and specialist lighting for retail merchandise columns, plus structural lift steel architectural lighting, were part of the project, too.
Other specialist work carried out by its 20-strong team included fitting AV/VM screens throughout the store and 3D projection on the wall of the building's atrium and at the ground floor cash desk.
The project also involved integrating fire alarm, sprinkler and radio antennae systems with the adjacent Park Inn by Radisson, which has been setting the standards forhotelsinBerlinfor decades.
Premier worked closely with London-based interior designers D&P and lighting consultants LAPD on the ambitious project.
Premier Electrics is an independently owned company which in recent years has worked across a range of European countries including Germany, Holland, Austria, Belgium, Spain and Portugal. It is set to open an additional office in Dusseldorf, Germany, to support its growing portfolio of European projects.
The award-winning Bellaghy based contractor has worked for many of the top retail brands throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Other recent work for Primark included electrical fit-out of a major new store in Cardiff and another in Canterbury.
Primark, which has head offices in Dublin and Reading, opened its first store in Dublin in 1969 - it trades as Penneys in Ireland - and it now has 276 stores across Ireland, the UK, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, Portugal , Belgium, Austria and France.
Primark has 13 stores in Germany and Premier has completed the electrical fit-out on 11 of them and Primark is planning to open several more new stores in Europe over the next 12 months.
