Hancocks re-launches 52 year old Kingsway brand
With the significant growth of own-label confectionery beyond doubt, Hancocks has invested in a full re-launch of its long established Kingsway brand to bring it bang up to date, rolling out the launch over the coming months.
Kingsway was originally established to offer retailers a consistent quality and better value range of bulk pick and mix sweets. Made by some of the industry's leading manufacturers, many hundreds of weighout sweets are offered under the Kingsway brand today, enabling retailers to maximise the profitability of this important confectionery sector.
During the last decade or so, the Kingsway brand has been further developed to include a wide range of sweet jars, children's sweets, bagged sweets, chocolate bars and seasonal confectionery products; the purpose of the brand always to provide retailers with a reliable quality product that offers a volume sales opportunity and often, a much higher margin potential.
Jonathan Summerley, Hancocks purchasing director comments: "We're really pleased with how the re-launch of Kingsway is coming together. It's a massive task given the number of confectionery products involved and once complete in a few months, will prove to be a massive asset to our customers. Hancocks' founder, Ray Hancock created the Kingsway brand in 1962 when he established Hancocks as a cash and carry. The name originated from the fact that Woolworths had a Queensway confectionery brand at that time. Ray was adamant that the UK would soon have a King (in 1962!) and so chose to call his brand Kingsway.
Loyal to its origins, the Kingsway image has always focused around a crown. Today that crown receives a far more contemporary and fun style that should appeal to all ages and stand out proudly on any shelf. The New Kingsway rebrand will be clearly signposted in the cash and carries whilst ongoing promotional activities will ensure that Hancocks' customers are always aware of the opportunity that it presents.
