In a recent move that sees employers’ upping their salary offers to prospective new staff members in an attempt to compete for staff to fill permanent roles that they have available, there is a call to UK businesses to ‘sharpen up hiring procedures’ within what is being called ‘an increasingly candidate driven market.’
As reports show that the rate of demand within the private sector is comprehensively surpassing that witnessed within the public sector, companies are going to great lengths to fill their vacancies with permanent placements, presenting great opportunities for those looking for work. However, these increases in starting salaries, the largest that has been seen in over 17 years is still struggling to sway candidates who are applying for roles across a number of sectors.
Employers who are prepared to show their cards and ‘splash the cash’ in a bid to entice skilled workers and lure them from competitors are finding that their efforts are proving more futile than ever, as those presented with larger offers remain steadfast within their current roles. The North especially has seen a greater rate of expansion in temporary billings than the South, with the Midlands experiencing a record number.
Many have called on the Government to reform the visa system to satisfy the current demand for usable skills, whilst taking the necessary steps to increase measures to enhance the UK skills base for the foreseeable long term.
London based recruitment to recruitment experts GSR2R reacts to news within their industry on a regular basis and believes that more should be done to improve current standings for employers and better manage candidate submissions in the UK. A spokesperson for the company said:
“Seeing the massive increase in demand for skilled candidates for jobs is a healthy sign for any industry, as GSR2R knows itself. However the lack of temporary and contract staff is a worrying concern for many companies who rely on temporary workforces to deal with their ever changing demands or seasonal targets.
“Even comparing to figures a year ago, demand for temporary workers has experienced a significant rise and is growing at a stronger pace, apart from those within the care/medical/nursing sectors.”
