Staff atmaterials handling services specialist Briggs Equipment, based in Staffordshire, are aiming to dream up inventive and fun-filled ways to raise money for Parkinson's UK, which is the company's chosen charity for 2014/15.

Each year employees stage a company-wide vote to nominate a charity and then organise a variety of events and activities to fundraise in support of their vital work.

Michelle Davies, Service Supervisor at Briggs Equipment, comments, "Parkinson's UK is very close to my heart due to my mother getting diagnosed several years ago, so I have first-hand experience of the devastating effects of the condition and how it can impact on quality of life.

"I nominated this charity to Briggs Equipment to help raise awareness of Parkinson's, as well as to help raise the profile of the charity."

Typically, Briggs Equipment's fundraising events feature themed events including golf days, ‘dress down' days and raffles, plus individual sponsored activities such as cycle rides and half marathons. Every penny raised by Briggs Equipment's staff will support Parkinson's UK's vital work.

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson's UK, said, "We're thrilled that Briggs Equipment has chosen us as their charity of the year. We are entirely dependent on donations to fund our vital support and research for everyone affected by Parkinson's.

"One person in every 500 has Parkinson's - about 127,000 people in the UK. There's currently no cure and it's only because of the generosity of supporters like Briggs Equipment that we're able to continue our work and ensure that nobody with Parkinson's has to face the future alone."

Richard Close, CEO of Briggs Equipment, says: "As a company we are passionate about putting something back into the community, so I am very proud of our employees' commitment to charitable works.

"I never cease to be impressed by the enthusiasm that each new fundraising initiative generates within the company, the community and our industry at large, and look forward to the next 12 months of fun as we raise money for Parkinson's UK."
