Midlands insolvency firm reaping the rewards of physical activity
Businesses across the Midlands are being urged to follow in the footsteps of Coventry based recovery and finance experts, The Cranfield Group, and increase their workforce productivity by raising activity levels amongst their employees.
As a company that actively encourages its workforce to engage in physical activity, Cranfield recently enjoyed success at the World Corporate Games, the world's largest multi sport festival for businesses and organisations which was held in Liverpool, with two of the company's employees competing in, and winning, the 5km and 10km events.
Both Ben Jones who is a manager at Cranfield and Tom Madden, who works as an administrator won their respective events. Both are keen runners, and have previously competed in the UK Corporate Games in 2013; with Ben, who is a member of the Coventry Godiva Harriers, having previously finished first in the Coventry half marathon.
The link between physical activity and productivity within a business environment is long-standing. The 2013 CIPD absence management survey reported that companies which actively encourage a physically active workforce are not only more productive in office hours, but employee sickness levels are also reduced. These findings are further testimony to the legacy left by the 2012 Olympics which saw Prime Minister David Cameron launch ‘Moving More Living More' which aims to build a fitter and healthier nation through physical activity encouraged in the business environment.
Ben Jones has already experienced for himself the business benefits of being physically active. Since joining Cranfield Group in June 2008, he has quickly risen through the ranks of the business to become a Manager, something which has been helped by his physical activity away from the office.
"Physical activity away from the office helps me to focus in the workplace and can be a great stress reliever too. I train most days before starting work, and as a result I find myself able to deal with whatever the day may throw at me. Aside from the physical benefits I also feel that my mental state benefits too. After a run I feel mentally stimulated and motivated- ready to begin my working day"
These sentiments are echoed by Cranfield which believes in positively encouraging physical activity efforts amongst the workforce. Company Director, Brett Barton said"It is in our company ethos at Cranfield that a physically active workforce is a productive one, and both Tom and Ben are testament to this - with Ben holding a managerial position at a comparatively young age. As a company, we were delighted to see them both win their event after qualifying for their respective races in the UK Corporate Games in 2013 and we were also able to help Ben meet the demands of his extensive training programme by adjusting his working hours"
To further compound the company's ‘active ethos', the Cranfield Group has also embarked on a number of physical activities for charities already this year, with Brett Barton recently competing in the Warwickshire WOLF run in aid of the company's chosen charity for 2014.
