Whether you're leaving home for the first time, or you've been negotiating the ups and downs of adult life for a while, one of the most commonly misunderstood issues of daily life - and one which can strike fear into anyone's heart - is MONEY.
Jeannette Lichneris passionate about helping people take control of their own money, no matter their age. Her new bookDuh ... Money!- stuff to make you financially independentdemystifies every aspect of earning, saving, borrowing and spending money. Jeannette is available to talk about how to avoid common pitfalls, why we end up making the same mistakes, and some clever tips to take CONTROL of our own money.
Most of us think we've got a handle on it, only to be surprised again and again by fees, penalties, interest payments, ways we COULD have saved money if ONLY we'd known about it. We read about ‘the debt hell of Kerry Katona copycats' as young people copy the lavish spending habits of their idols and spiral into debt, young women at twice the rate of men the same age. Couples going through the breakup of a relationship, or following the sudden loss of a partner, can be overwhelmed at having to deal with their own finances for the very first time.
Jeannette Lichner explains how anyone can equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to be truly financially independent. Further information follows below about both Jeannette Lichner andDuh ... Money!- stuff to make you financially independent.

Learning to stand on your own two feet, in a financial sense, can be difficult, especiallyif you don't know what you don't know. And it's not always easy - or wise - to take advice from well-meaning parents and friends when something as important as your own financial independence is at stake.
In this handy and comprehensive book, Jeannette Lichner demystifies every aspect of earning, saving, borrowing and spending money, to create anessential money manual no young person should be without.
Packed with practical information, this book clearly explains the money challenges we encounter every day: pay slips and taxes, insurance, banks, credit cards, where to borrow and how to save money; and those bigger, long-term money decisions such as home rentals, buying a car and a place to live. She shares useful budgeting tools, advises how to get a credit score and keep it clean, and how to avoid common financial pitfalls.
Jeannette has combined knowledge gained from 30 years in the finance industry with her experience of coaching young people in financial skills, and the many lessons learnt from being a parent herself, to enable any young person to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to be truly financially independent.
Jeannette Lichnerholds degrees in Commerce and Accounting and worked for many years at Morgan Stanley in Finance, Operations, Investment Banking, Human Resources, and as Chief of Staff for the Global Head of Infrastructure. She was Head of Regulatory Compliance and Operational Risk for EMEA and Asia at Bank of America, and currently works with FTI Consulting. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments, and sits on its Editorial Panel and the Education Committee of its Board.
Jeannette's passion is coaching young people as they launch their careers and become managers of their own money, and she is actively involved in the campaign for financial literacy. Accredited by the Academy of Executive Coaches, she is a frequent speaker on career and financial independence,as seen in this TedTalk to a young audience, well as financial services governance, risk and conduct issues.
Jeannette Lichner is truly international - she was born in New York to parents who emigrated from Argentina and Czechoslovakia, and spent her early years in the US and Lima, Peru. She considers herself to be British (despite the American accent), since making her home here thirty years ago and raising her family in the UK.
Jeannette lives with her husband and two llamas in West Sussex. Her daughter and son have both finished their university studies, and she is proud to say that they are (now!) financially independent.
