Lima Delegation Returns from XX Commonwealth Games
A delegation from Lima has returned home following a successful trip to the XX Commonwealth Games which finished in style in a spectacular closing ceremony on 3rdAugust. José Quiñones González, President of the National Olympic Committee, leading the delegation confirms: "Transfer of knowledge lies at the heart of our values and so the visit enabled us to benefit by observing best practice at close quarters including venues and transportation."
"Visiting the Commonwealth Games was important as we look forward to welcoming the sporting federations and IOC members to Lima for many events over the next few years. Our uncompromising commitment to sport is an ongoing programme through which we are adding to or improving the existing infrastructure needed to host these internationally important events".
González continued "Returning to Lima's Jorge Chávez International Airport we see at first hand a prime example of the philosophy we have adopted for creating a great infrastructure. Earlier this year it was voted "Best Airport in South America" by Skytrax for the sixth consecutive year and its employees awarded Best Airport Staff in South America 2014 award for the fourth time."
"Whilst we continue to learn at every opportunity, we are also now enjoying being able to provide an excellent experience for visitors to our city and this begins with the very first impression of our airport "concluded González.

Editors notes:
Already established as an important hub for air traffic in central and South America due to its strategic location in the heart of the Pacific, the airport served 14.9 million passengers in 2013 - an increase of 11.9% year-on-year - and this growth is set to continue. International and domestic, commercial and consumer routes are being constantly added or increased to meet demand which will be met with a new runway and passenger terminal. Recent new direct services include Fort Lauderdale, Santiago, and Bogota and there are new domestic services planned for later this year to Talara and Ayacucho.
As well as adding new flights the airport is also improving security and efficiency with the introduction of fingerprint scanners and electronic passport booths.
