Disabled
access vehicle specialist Jubilee Automotive Group respond to news of a
motoring scam that is leaving hundreds of Devonshire disabled drivers out of
pocket.
In an
attempt to warn drivers of the horrible scam, Devon County Officials are
actively warning drivers to be on their guard, following an alarming number of
incidents where unsuspecting permit holders have received bogus notifications regarding
having to pay the renewal fee for their free parking entitlement.
In letters
sent out to permit holders, officials speak of the conspiracy to commit fraud
in the county, mentioning that these malicious websites, although appearing
legitimate, ask the victims for a payment of up to £49 to secure their next
year’s parking disks. Although the blue disks are purchased, for some there are
price reductions and for others the blue badges are completely free. Because of
the fraudster’s actions, many are being duped out of significant amounts,
especially the elderly.
Lasting
between 12 months and 3 years, the blue disabled parking permit was introduced
by the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 as an orange badge.
Having to meet statutory requirements, the majority of blue permit holders will
usually receive certain disability benefits from the government.
Wednesbury
based disabled vehicle expert Jubilee Automotive Group are one of the UK’s
leading providers of competitive, high quality wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Reacting to relevant news, stories, research and notifications within their
industry, a spokesperson for the company expressed their concerns and anger to
those carrying out these wicked acts:
“To hear of
such outrageous occurrences, being aimed at the infirm and frail is downright
disgusting and those involved should be deeply ashamed.
“Often, the
only access some disabled people have access to is their car, either as a
driver or passenger. To be a victim of fraud, on any level is inhumane and a
direct insult to their disability. A truly saddening matter that we fear will
continue to happen in some guise or another.”
In a bid to
warn further drivers, Devon Councillor Roger Croad said: “We always urge
consumers to avoid unofficial websites which could leave you out of pocket or
at risk of identity theft.
“Only use
the GOV.UK website for government services.”
With this
information to hand, both Devon County Council and Jubilee Automotive Group
wish to inform as many disabled drivers as possible of the risk of issuing
payment to any other organisations other than the government website. Established
in 1992 but with a history that spans way back to 1932; Jubilee Automotive
