Gourmet
flavoured coffee specialist Fresco Coffee has responded to news that drinking
fresh ground coffee can guard against many conditions and ailments, including
tinnitus.
New
research, released by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, has
found that drinking four or fix cups of freshly prepared coffee (not
freeze-dried) could protect against tinnitus, despite coffee being blamed as a
consumable that aggravated symptoms.
More than
65,000 women were involved in the study, led by Professor Gary Curhan. The
results found that those who consumed the most cups of fresh coffee
dramatically reduced their risk of developing the condition. In a statement he
said: "We observed a significant inverse association between caffeine
intake and the incidence of tinnitus among these women."
A growing
problem for adults of both sexes, tinnitus is a condition that causes a
constant ringing in the ears, one so impeding that it can cause sufferers to
sink rapidly into depression.
Affecting
hundreds of millions of individuals around the world, with over 50 million
Americans and 10% of Britons suffering from tinnitus of varying levels, this
new study could help people to better protect against the disease by
encouraging coffee consumption. Professor Curhan added: "The reason behind
this observed association is unclear. We know caffeine stimulates the central
nervous system, and previous research has demonstrated caffeine has a direct
effect on the inner ear in both bench science and animal studies.”
Although further
research is needed to fully support the claim, it wouldn’t be the first time
that coffee has been identified as a drink with positive health associations.
The popular beverage is known for being a healthy addition to a balanced diet
when taken in moderation.
