Dali designer Zhao Yang’s contemporary inspired architectural designs wow Japan and China

European fine contemporary furniture experts Interior Supply remark on news of Zhao Yang’s success in bringing contemporary design to Japanese and Chinese architecture.

Zhao Yang is helping to bring contemporary architectural design to both his native China and Japan as western design influences grow more popular.

Striking out on his own, not unlike many idealistic and ambitious peers of his, Zhao Yang graduated from one of Beijing’s most influential and prestigious academic facilities, the Tsinghua University and spent a year working for his graduate advisor, not knowing what type of architecture he wanted to specialise in.

China has experienced one of the biggest building booms over the last decade and as so it wasn’t long before the architect snapped up his very first commission, designing an office block. Feeling that he hadn’t had the chance to fully express himself, even though he had received nothing but positive feedback for the project, Zhao needed to ‘figure out what he wanted to gain from architecture.’

2008 saw his subsequent application to Harvard where he achieved a Master’s degree in architecture, gaining a wealth of western influenced knowledge and inspiration, followed by a critically praised project in Tibet and numerous awards and accolades to his name. Now his plans are to bring those influences to Japan and China.

As a company who continually respond to news within their industry, Interior Supply, a noted provider of contemporary decor, believes that Zhao Yang’s western educational influences will spark interest in a rising Chinese generation. A spokesperson for the company had this to say:

“Zhao Yang bringing contemporary architecture to China and Japan is terrific, a reflection of the mass appeal that contemporary design is having on the world today, as it has in the past.

“The use of such innovative designs as seen within this architect’s portfolio so perfectly reproduces the aesthetics that can be easily identified across contemporary design as a whole. The use of colour within Yang’s work is especially fascinating as his use of contrasting colours, a crucial element of Tibetan visual culture, offers such a wonderful array of perspectives.”
