Briggs Equipment boosts Royal Logistic Corps' rugby

Briggs Equipment has confirmed its ongoing support for the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) Corps' rugby teams through continued sponsorship for 2014-15. The sponsorship deal, co-ordinated by Briggs Equipment's Defense Logistic Support (DLS) division, helps further develop soldiers' individual skills and teamwork through an extensive rugby programme.

As the largest Corps in the British Army, the Royal Logistic Corps ensures everything from tanks and ammunition to letters and food gets to the right people in the right place at the right time. In recognition of the positive impact achieved through involvement in sport, Briggs DLS have supported RLC's rugby programme since 1998.

Alex Russett, Commercial Manager, Briggs DLS commented: "Briggs Equipment is passionate about making a difference to young Service personnel and our sponsorship programme underlines this.

"Rugby has been central to our support for 16 years and can be inspirational to young soldiers, many of whom join the Army straight out of school. We aim to promote winning through teamwork and to highlight how involvement in sport can help soldiers develop

vital skills."

As the Royal Logistic Corps RUFC's principal sponsor, Briggs helps fund players' kit, equipment including post protection and corner flags and the handbook issued to the commanding officers of all the RLC's units. Briggs Equipment DLS also attends and provides hospitality for guests at the majority of the RLC RUFC's fixtures.

Over the years, several players representing the Royal Logistic Corps RUFC have been selected to play for the Army 15 in the prestigious annual Army v. Navy match. This year Briggs hosted guests at Twickenham, seizing the opportunity to develop relationships whilst celebrating the achievements of the players involved.

In addition to the main sponsorship, an inter-regiment competition, the Briggs Equipment Shield, has been established. The 2014 title was presented to 3 Logistic Support Regiment and in honour of a highly respected DLS Service Manager the Vince Clare Memorial award was presented to the Man of the Match, LCpl. Iggy Putty.

For the 2014/15 season, Briggs Equipment DLS will increase its support to include the Veterans and Saxons development squads; the Festival of Rugby, a tournament that unites the RLC rugby community in Gloucestershire.

Briggs Equipment DLS is further developing its relationship with the Army through golf and angling. This year the company is a sponsor of the Army Match Play Championship and the Inter-Services Golf Championship and for the first time is sponsoring the Army Angling Federation's 2014 Army Boat Championships.

Briggs' DLS division focuses on delivering global supply and support to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). In 2013 it was awarded an £87 million contract by the MoD's Defence Equipment and Support Organisation to supply, manage and maintain a mixed fleet of mechanical handling equipment.
