Digital marketing
heavyweight Ranking Solutions has stressed the benefits of online marketing in
response to study revealing most Britons shop online
Three quarters of adults in the UK have taken to the
internet this year to shop online, a newly released study has found.
Internet Access –
Households and Individuals 2014, a report by the Office for National
Statistics (ONS), discovered that so far in 2014 a staggering 74 percent of all
adults have used the internet to purchase services or goods. Figures also shed
light on what Britons most like to purchase, with almost half – 49 percent – of
survey respondents reporting that they’ve bought clothes online. Transport, sports
goods, accommodation, household wares and event tickets were several of the
other most popular goods or services attained.
In all, it was found that 38 million British adults use the
internet each day, a number which is 2 million more than last year and twice
the amount recorded in 2006.
The research correlated other reports which show that more
of us are using the internet for everything from media (news, films and TV
shows), video games and shopping to banking and staying in touch with friends
and family with social media.
Figures show that men and young people are more likely to
shop online and that the UK alongside Denmark leads the way when it comes to
e-shopping in Europe.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was also discovered that more
people – 58 percent of those surveyed – are using the internet on the go,
utilising smartphones, tablets and laptops to browse shops.
Remarking on the findings, the ONS said:
“The Internet is a resource for new services such as Google
Play, iTunes and streaming services such as Netflix and LoveFilm.
“It has never been easier to watch a film online, listen to
the latest album releases or download games to mobiles, tablets, desktops or
consoles.”
Worryingly for many high street-only shops, more people are
finding items in physical stores only to seek out better deals on the same
products on the internet.
But the findings don’t come as a surprise to Ranking
Solutions, a website marketing company located in Lancashire. They frequently
share their thoughts on industry-related news and are strong advocates of
e-commerce.
A spokesperson for Ranking Solutions said:
“This shows that despite massive amounts of people already
relying on the internet for shopping and everyday tasks, there’s still plenty
of room for growth. The ONS study highlights why getting online is crucial for
businesses in the 21st century.
“As a leading provider of digital marketing, including
search engine optimisation and pay per click advertising, we’ve seen just how
important the internet is to the ongoing success of our clients. Even clients
who’ve traditionally relied on door-to-door and high street sales now depend
very much on ecommerce activity.”
