A DEMAND that Thorite was happy to meet

Most people dislike dealing with demands, but when Thorite's Managing Director Stephen Wright was contacted by DEMAND, the hard working Yorkshire charity Design & Manufacturing for Disability, he was more than happy to make an immediate response.

DEMAND is located in Brockholes, Holmfirth, dedicated to solving the challenges and overcoming the frustrations in the daily life of disabled people. Its talented designers create innovative solutions to enable people with disabilities achieve more and its team of craftsmen can turn their hands to many manufacturing tasks in its workshop - they can rivet, upholster, weld, mill, sandblast or paint, to list just a few of their skills.

Unfortunately the workshop's old compressor had finally expired, meaning that any riveting and stapling had to be done by hand, which was not only wrist-breaking and tedious, but also very slow - and sandblasting was impossible.

Discussions about a new replacement were held and Thorite was mentioned as being the leading source for all things pneumatic, from air compressors to complete processing systems, and Stephen Wright, the founder's great, great grandson was known to be a dedicated supporter of local manufacturing. A DEMAND fundraiser hoped that Stephen would understand the difficulties the charity faced and might be persuaded to help.

Speaking of DEMAND's plight Stephen said: "I was very concerned to hear of the problems the charity was trying to overcome and more than pleased to respond to their request. We've now delivered a Thorite own-brand Diamond TH29200 air compressor to DEMAND's workshop in Brockholes and I'm delighted to hear that their manufacturing output is already back up to speed."

Last year more than 3,700 people benefitted from DEMAND's charitable work and as the purchase of tools and equipment is one of the charity's major costs, the money saved by Thorite's donated compressor will be used to create bespoke solutions to help even more disabled people.
