Commentary on test matches from Lord's, the home of cricket, is frequently interrupted by showers or more prolonged bad weather with it often taking hours for the surface to be playable again even after the covers are removed. Happily though, there were no such delays during a car park contract near to the ground in St John's Wood, north-west London, thanks to the selection of TREMCO's MMA Rapid Cure Flexible System for waterproofing a large asphalt covered deck.

The work on the private facility serving Cavendish House, located on the famous Wellington Road which runs alongside Lord's, has been carried out by specialist installer, Cemplas Limited, acting on behalf of Urbanworthy Property Management which looks after the apartment building and adjoining properties.

As a long-time customer of tremco illbruck, Cemplas makes regular use of the MMA Rapid Cure Flexible System across a variety of sectors and substrate types. In this instance, the TREMCO system was recommended to the client for a variety of reasons including reliability and cost, as well as its tolerance of changeable weather conditions.

Cemplas carried out the work over a two-week period in October 2013, splitting the 1050 square m² top deck into two zones to avoid having to close the car park to residents completely.

Liam Blencowe, Contracts Manager of Cemplas, comments: "We were called in to look at the podium level slab at Cavendish House which was protecting a basement level where, unfortunately, water was getting through and salt staining affecting vehicles. The original asphalt slab had been over-coated at some time in the past, but this was breaking down and required replacement.

"We recommended the TREMCO MMA Rapid Cure Flexible System because it is totally compatible with asphalt and has proved very reliable in the past - it is just a really good system to use. We planed off the old coating and reduced the asphalt by 10 mm to get to a sound surface that was then shot-blasted to give a good key. We then also used the same specification for the ramps, just banded the joints with extra fleece. "

Tony Stericker, Company Secretary for Urbanworthy, confirms: "We took three different quotes for the work - not only had we used Cemplas and the TREMCO systems successfully in the past, but they actually provided the lowest tender. One of TREMCO's technical service team engineers came and inspected car park deck, taking photos and measurements, before making a recommendation."

The MMA Rapid Cure Flexible System the CP360 flexible MMA waterproofing membrane followed by the CP215 flexible basecoat. This was then over-coated with the tremco CP930 flexible waterproof coloured sealer, specified in the grey option. Cemplas completed its work by applying white lines for parking bays and other areas.
