Briggs Equipment aims to score £15,000 with Armed Forces charity dinner

Materials handling services specialist Briggs Equipment is aiming to raise £15,000 by hosting and sponsoring a special charity dinner in support of the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) and Help for Heroes on Friday, September 19.

The event takes place at the Headquarters Officers' Mess of the Royal Logistic Corps at Deepcut Barracks in Camberley. Each table will be hosted by an officer from the RLC and the evening will feature the Sundown Ceremony, a piper from the Queens' Own Ghurkha Logistic Regiment, a military band and the Corps of Drums from the Royal Logistic Corps.

Briggs is a longstanding sponsor of the RLC, the largest Corps in the British Army, which wasformed in 1993. Throughits Defense Logistic Support (DLS) division,the company has supported the RLCsince 1998, helping to further develop soldiers' individual skills and teamwork through an extensive rugby sponsorship programme.

All funds raised by the dinner will be divided equally between the RLC and Help for Heroes, the charity thatsupports injured and wounded service personnel. The RLC believes that sport isessential to personal and team development and will use the money tofund additional equipment, new strips, coaching qualifications and pre-season training camps for the 16,000 soldiers and officers who form the Corps. The money will also help support the development of two annual major regiment competitions - the RLC Sixes and the Major Units Cup - held during the end of season festival of football.

"Very few civilians get the opportunity to experience the kind of interaction with the British Army that our charity dinner offers, and those who have say it is something they will never forget," says Alex Russett, Commercial Manager, Briggs DLS.

"With the support of our industry partners and major customers we look forward to a unique event that will give us the opportunity to show our appreciation for and give something back to the UK's service personnel."

Briggs' DLS division provides global supply and support to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and in 2013 was awarded an £87million contract to supply, manage and maintain a mixed fleet of materials handling equipment.
