Staff and customers recognised as housing association celebrates success

Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) has recognised one of its customers for his efforts to build a sense of community spirit in the area where he lives during an event celebrating the organisation's many successes over the past 12 months.

With the theme of ‘Delivering More', the Annual General Meeting also provided the opportunity for SARH customers and key stakeholders to get a taste of its plans for the future, including the construction of more affordable homes to meet local housing needs.

It also recognised customers and staff that have contributed to the success of the housing association, including Dave James who was presented with a special Good Neighbour Award.

Kind-hearted Dave volunteered to help his neighbours to put up hanging baskets alongside organising a series of coffee mornings and taking part in a charity fun run.

Karen Armitage, SARH Chief Executive, commented: "The AGM is one of the highlights of our year and gives us the chance to recognise some of the many people who have helped us achieve our goals over the past 12 months.

"The theme of Delivering More reflected our efforts to build on our past success by moving forward with multi-million pound plans to provide more affordable housing whilst supporting our existing customers, including those who rely on our independent living services.

Karen also spoke of her pride at SARH being named as a BEST 100 not-for-profit company, making its debut in the prestigious list at number 20, and the organisation's plans to improve existing housing stock.

"These achievements would not be possible without the tremendous efforts of our staff and I'm delighted that they too were recognised during the AGM," Karen said.

In addition to the Good Neighbour Award, accolades were also presented to a number of staff during the event. Steve Thay of the association's Housing Worx division that installs kitchens and bathrooms was recognised with an Excellence Award whilst Christy Maud was named Apprentice of the Year. Presentations were also made to retiring members of the board.

"With issues such as welfare reform and a difficult economic climate, these are challenging but exciting times and I'm sure we will continue to work with our partners over the next 12 months to meet local housing needs whilst building communities and helping people to improve their lives," Karen added.
