Polls shows UK Manufacturers ‘want to stay in the EU’ – UWrap reacts

Shrink wrapping machinery experts Uwrap responds to news that the majority of UK manufacturers want the UK to remain part of the European Union.

A survey carried out in August this year by the manufacturer’s organisation EEF discovered that an incredible 85% of polled companies would, in the event of a required vote, wish to stay in the EU, despite the torrent of economic troubles that have plagued the EU over recent months. As a direct reflection to just 7% that said they would opt to leave, it seems as though the general consensus of UK businesses would be to ride out the stormy weather.

160 companies were surveyed from the 6000 that are currently represented by the EEF, including a number of manufacturing companies who have felt the brunt of the economic climate over the last quarter.

There was a total of two surveys carried out this year in August that witnessed that the UK manufacturing sector growth had slowed down, based upon both new orders and productivity output of companies increasing at a lesser speed than previously experienced. It had become such a concern that the Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers’ Index or  PMI for UK Manufacturing slipped down to over 2 points from 54.8 to 52.5 in July 2014, which by all accounts has been the lowest point in over 14months.

Uwrap Ltd, Blackpool-based shrink wrap machine designers, manufacturers and distributers, regularly reacts to industry relevant news and studies. A company representative believes that for many the decision to stay in the EU would naturally affect manufacturers differently:

“Legislation, funding and the like naturally affect companies differently, and while some manufacturers will receive obvious benefits from the UK being in the European Union, we’re sure there are some who may have another story to tell. Enabling better logistics and commerce between states, and improvements in the EU’s economic structure, could certainly bring added benefits to the UK manufacturing sector.”

Established for over 25 years as a leading manufacturer of high quality commercial and industrial shrink wrap and sealing machinery, Uwrap maintain a close eye on European events as they ship their products to a global customer base, particularly to businesses in the UK, the USA and the EU.
