Housing association launches programme of community events

Whether it's making ‘spooktacular' Halloween lanterns andChristmas crafts, or learning stress-busting skills, Stafford And Rural Homes' (SARH) community learning programme has something for everyone this autumn and winter.

The free to attend events at locations in and around Stafford are designed to appeal to all ages and the first one is set to take place on Wednesday, October 15, and looks at Fire Safety inthe home.

Other topics covered in the Autumn events programme include Stress-Busting And Relaxation, whilst a Kiddy Cook's Halloween Spooky Special will give local children the opportunity to make homemade pumpkin soup and frozen frogs' eggs.

Those seeking to improve their DIY skills may fancy Basic Plumbing, while Dog Micro Chipping is a drop-in session offering free a chipping service

More serious subjects are also covered by the community learning programme, including Alcohol Awareness. This event aims to help people comprehend the nature of addiction, while Understanding Food Labels And Cooking Food For The Freezer dispels myths about ‘diet' foods and demonstrates how produce almost at the end of its life can be used economically to produce a delicious meal.

Christmas Crafts rounds proceedings off on Thursday, December 11, with attendees invited to improve craft skills and save money by making their own Christmas wreath and table decoration.

SARH Chief Executive, Karen Armitage said the array of events should once again prove popular. "We pride ourselves on offering courses on a wide range of subjects that will appeal to and help all kinds of people," she said. "The workshops are open to all members of the local community - not just SARH customers, and we are sure those who come along will find them both friendly and informative.

"Organising these events helps us to support our customers, offering them money saving tips and useful advice while bringing people together to forge stronger communities," she added.
