NOT JUST HOLLYWOOD: PIRATES A PROBLEM FOR UK PUBLISHING

New product makes it easier and more affordable to tackle e-book piracy.

Tadlow, Cambridgeshire, UK: 06 October 2014 -E-book piracy is becoming an increasing risk to authors and publishers, but you don't need J.K Rowling's budget to ensure your assets are safe, says the director of one of the UK's most successful companies specialising in removal of pirated content from the Internet.

Online piracy is big business, with illegal copying of digital content costing the UK's creative industries £1 billion every year. While online piracy has traditionally affected the film and music industries, the rise of e-readers has put authors and publishers at an increased risk, with one study showing that last year there were seven million illegal e-book downloads in a three month period alone.

DiCopSys, one of the UK's leading anti-piracy specialists, has launched Open DCS to help combat this increasing problem. The free service will record, send DMCA notices, and monitor take down visibility of any copyright infringements that the user can find of their material. For a small charge users can also purchase ‘search credits' and gain access to the DiCopSys search engine, which will search the internet for pirated copies of the user's product.

Ian Noble, the director of DiCopSys says, "One of the most common arguments is that online piracy only results in small profit losses for rich Hollywood studios. However the reality is that online piracy affects every creative industry, and severely impacts on the livelihoods of everyday people.

"Our new Open DCS system allows anyone, whether that's an established publisher or a debut author, to take steps to remove illegally infringing content on the internet for an affordable price."

DiCopSys uses US and European legislation to seek out and serve take down notices to offending websites and individuals. Research has shown that the take down system is highly effective in tackling online piracy, and the company has an 81% success rate. In the past month DiCopSys has been ranked at 31st in the world for take down notices by Google.

As well as Open DCS, DiCopSys also offers a fully Managed Service which users can upgrade to at any time.
