A blend of mud and coffee help Barrett Steel raise over £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Tristan's Target / bs063 / 07.10.14
Two Tough Mudder Challenges and a coffee morning, part of the Macmillan ‘World's Biggest Coffee Morning', recently helped Barrett Steel, the UK's largest independent steel stockholder, raise a massive £5,671 for two worthy causes, Macmillan Cancer Support and Tristan's Target.
Marketing Manager, Chris Lamb, explains how the company raised the funds: "We started with 29 feisty employees, friends and relatives undertaking two Tough Mudder Challenges at Broughton Hall, Skipton and Cholmondely Estate, Chester. The teams were challenged to a 12-mile course with over 25 obstacles including ice bath, electric shock, vertical walls and lots of MUD! Both challenges were successfully completed by 63-year-old Executive Director, Dave Godfrey, who retired this month after 27 years with Barrett. We rounded off the fundraising effort by taking part in Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning on the last Friday in September."
Macmillan Cancer Support, for whom Barrett had already raised over £7,000 at a charity sports dinner earlier in the year, provides an invaluable service, ensuring that no-one has to face cancer alone.
Tristan's Target is a cause that is close to home. Barrett employee, Keith Hill, who works at the company's Oldham depot, was raising funds through the Tree of Hope charity. His grandson, four year old Tristan Dawe, needs a life changing operation to help him walk. Additional donations to Tristan's target helped to meet his original goal of £30,000 to pay for his long awaited operation. The charity is working towards the next £30,000 target to fund physiotherapy following surgery. For donations please visit the JustGiving charity page: - https://www.justgiving.com/tristanstarget

About Tough Mudder
Tough Mudder is a hardcore event that tests strength, stamina and mental grit. The course comprises a 12 mile run in mud with numerous obstacles throughout, including Electric Eel, Trench Warfare and Cage Crawl. All obstacles are designed to push mental and physical strength to the limit.
According to the website https://toughmudder.co.uk ‘Tough Mudder is the premier obstacle course series in the world'. Despite the difficulties Barrett's two teams pushed boundaries and overcame numerous obstacles to reach the finishing line. Above all they worked as a team - and had a lot of fun into the bargain.
