Prestigious National Safety Accreditation Awarded

at Cornwall's Only Blue Flag Beach

A water sports company, based on Cornwall's only Blue Flag beach, has been granted a prestigious national safety award.

Ocean Sports Centre, which operates from Carbis Bay beach and provides experiences for guests of Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, alongside the public, has received a national accreditation from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).

The aim of the AALA is to provide assurances to the public regarding the safety of an activity provider; granting of this license means that the establishment follows excellent safety management practices at all times.

Gaining the accreditation was a particularly arduous and expensive process for Ocean Sports Centre with extensive paper audits and equipment checks, as well as requiring important staffing qualifications and expertise - demonstrating the commitment needed to achieve this important qualification.

Glenn Eldridge, Owner of Ocean Sports Centre said:

"Gaining national recognition for our standards is important to us and also ensures that the quality of our provision meets the highest possible level for our customers. We take pride in not just meeting the required criteria, but in going the extra mile to achieve excellence beyond what is necessary.

Glenn continued: "For example we have invested in staff who have a wealth of experience in their respective disciplines, including: kayaker Emily Corin who competes for Great Britain; Johnny Stevenson, who sails and coaches the GB disability sailing team; as well as Scooby Lark, who is the current world youth champion in Surf Life Saving. In addition I have coached a number of local athletes to a world standard, some of whom have medalled at a European and world level, as well as competing on an international stage myself, in three sports for over 20 years".

Ocean Sports Centre offers a comprehensive activities package for all ages and abilities from within the local area and further afield including: kayaking; stand up paddle board (SUP); Hawaiian canoeing; sailing; adventure snorkelling; and a beach club which involves a range of multi-sport activities.

Situated on Carbis Bay beach, it is a prime spot to encourage locals as well as Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate's guests to try out something different during their stay, and with important safety accreditations in place, guests are assured of safety whilst enjoying a wide range of activities that they may never have experienced before.

Stephen Baker, Owner of Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate said:

"Ocean Sports Centre is a huge attraction for us. We are aware that many of our guests and local residents have a real passion for water sports and it is fantastic to be able to provide this offering right on our doorstep, literally just a few steps away from the hotel on our own private beach.

Stephen continued: "We are delighted that Ocean Sports Centre has achieved their safety accreditation and we are also proud to facilitate an environment for these activities to take place throughout the year."

In conjunction with Ocean Sports Centre, Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate work hard to ensure it maintains its Blue Flag beach status - the only beach in Cornwall with the accreditation - by fulfilling a number of strict criteria covering environmental information and education, environmental management, water quality, safety and services.

In turn this provides an ideal location for water activities as well as enabling Carbis Bay beach, owned by the Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, to be internationally recognised, guaranteeing locals and visitors that the beach is one of the best in the world.
