Local
logistics firm on song for charity
A Midlands logistics firm that works throughout Europe, is looking to deliver something a little different in time for Christmas – the perfect song!
The Board of Directors at time critical logistics
specialist Bespoke Distribution Aviation (BDA) have set themselves the
ambitious target to be able to hit the right note performing the perfect song
at the company’s Christmas party.
In a project reminiscent of popular BBC1 programme The
Choir, six members of the BDA Board will be receiving professional singing
lessons from Leicester-based singing tutor Gail Bater as they fine tune their
vocal chords over the next three months. They will then film their pitch
perfect performance at the Christmas party, raising funds for the charity
Emmaus UK, throughout the learning process.
Emmaus is a
homelessness charity with a difference. Rather than just providing a bed for
the night, it offers people who have experienced homelessness a home for as
long as they need it, as well as meaningful work in a social enterprise. This
combination of home and work makes it more likely people will overcome
homelessness long term.
Only one member of the Board of Directors has had any
experience of singing in the past, with Operations Director Alison Brindley
previously having performed in an amateur band, but even she admits that it was
nothing on the scale they are hoping to achieve in time for Christmas.
Alison Brindley said: “This whole project is going to be
really fun and should help raise some much needed funds for Emmaus. A lot of
people typically view logistics professionals as big, burly warehouse staff who
shift heavy boxes around all day but we are all approachable business people
and hopefully those who watch us on our journey will appreciate this.”
Modals and falsettos are a far cry from the final mile
delivery solutions that BDA provides to businesses five nights a week. The
company operates its own freight only flights between its
Coventry, Maastricht, Frankfurt and Dublin Hubs which provide clients with a
guaranteed In-night, and early morning overnight delivery service for
time-critical shipments for industries ranging from medical equipment to
materials handling, e-commerce and agricultural machinery.
The company’s singing tutor, Gail Bater, said she was
really looking forward to hearing BDA deliver the perfect song and indicated
that their first lesson has already gone really well.
“I think this is a really interesting and creative way
for BDA to raise money for Emmaus UK. It’s a very ambitious project to learn to
sing in the time between now and the company’s Christmas party but they say
that practice makes perfect and everyone is keen to get involved.
“Management at BDA are already learning
when to come in at the correct times, when some of them do not even read music
or have not sung since they were in school. So it’s all on the right track at
the moment.”
Duncan Gall from Emmaus UK, added: "Christmas is a tough time for people when they're homeless. Not only does the cold weather make sleeping outside a gruelling experience, but, at a time when we all want to be with loved ones, being on the street can be particularly lonely.
"This is why BDA's support is so vital to Emmaus at
this time of year. This is an unusual way to raise money but their support in
the run up to Christmas is hugely appreciated. I can't wait to see if the
singing lessons pay off."
