Ethically-motivated Hull company in the running for business awards

Hull-based eco business Bio-D is hoping for success in the Small Business of the Year category of the Hull Daily Mail Business Awards 2014.

The independent ethical cleaning products firm has seen a high turnover, profits rising and with profits expected to reach 30% profit this year, the business has set its sights on big businesses, including Waitrose.

Bio-D's growth has been attributed to a brand redesign, new product development and improvements to pack format to ensure that they remain at the forefront of the eco-friendly cleaning market.

Bio-D's Managing Director Lloyd Atkin said: "Being shortlisted in the Small Business of the Year category is excellent recognition of our commitment to producing environmentally responsible detergents.

"We are very proud to be a finalist, especially in our 25thanniversary year" he added.

Bio-D products are currently sold through Oxfam, Booths, high street health food stores and a variety of online retailers including www.biodegradable.biz.

Alongside expansion into bigger businesses, the cleaning products company hope to add more deals in the catering, cleaning and public services sector.

TheHull Daily Mail Business Awardsceremony will be held at Willerby Manor Hotel in Hull on Thursday November 20.

Politician Lord Mandelson is set speak at the ceremony where he is expected to share his thoughts on the future of East Yorkshire with guests.
