Thixendale entrepreneur in the running for Hull Daily Mail Business Awards

A rapeseed oil farmer based in Thixendale has been shortlisted in the Entrepreneur of the Year in the Hull Daily Mail Business Awards 2014.

Adam Palmer, a former Bishop Burton College student, took over his grandfather's farm aged 19 and seized the opportunity to press and bottle rapeseed oil in 2008.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil has gone on to be prized by Michelin-starred chef James Mackenzie, as well as expanding its preservative, GM and gluten free oil range into dressings, mayonnaise and flavoured oils.

Mr Palmer said: "I am stunned and delighted to be shortlisted in this category. It speaks volumes for all of us on the team and the hard work that we have all invested in the business.

"Our commitment to making an excellent product with a strong sense of provenance is what makes us stand out from other brands and it's something that I'm very proud of" he added

Mr Palmer, who sits on the board of directors at the Regional Food Group deliciouslyorkshire, has also contributed to strengthening the Yorkshire community of food producers by collaborating with neighbouring business The Chilli Jam Man and East Yorkshire based Staal Smokehouse.

The Hull Daily Mail Business Awards ceremony will be held at Willerby Manor Hotel in Hull on Thursday November 20.

Politician Lord Mandelson is set speak at the ceremony where he is expected to share his thoughts on the future of East Yorkshire with guests.
