Oleo future proofs rail crash simulation software

A world leader in crash energy simulation technology is further developing its service offering to meet future industry challenges, after appointing a new Research Director.

Oleo International, has been innovating its simulation software for the last twenty years, and has appointed Terry Williams as Research Director both to further develop the company’s simulation offering for the rail sector across multiple platforms and to develop applications for use in other fields. A key part of the role will see him build further on improving the simulations and the launch of Oleo’s new industrial crash energy simulation technology.

Terry Williams brings 20 years experience to the role and was influential in Oleo’s initial development of 1D Rail simulation software for the worldwide rail industry. His expertise encompasses the development of mathematical simulations correlated with extensive laboratory and full size train crash testing. He has also played a key role in the design and development of gas hydraulic and deformation energy absorption that are used by all the main coupler manufacturers, the results of which are accepted by train operators and car manufacturers worldwide.

Terry Williams’ new role in the company is part of Oleo’s expansion of its engineering team with the appointment of Peter Lee as Engineering Director, a fellow of the IMechE with over 20 years of mechanical engineering experience. Peter Lee specialises in managing the design and development engineering of new products and will lead Oleo’s UK team in designing and manufacturing energy absorption solutions for the rail, elevator and industrial sectors worldwide.

These appointments come at a time of huge growth for Oleo, which is currently manufacturing a new high speed buffer range to provide a vital safety mechanism for elevators in some of the tallest skyscrapers all over the world. The company’s 3D simulation offering has also grown over recent months with development continuing. Oleo 1D Rail is used for investigating the sensitivity of a whole train crash energy management system for collision response.

Sul Sahota, Managing Director at Oleo is optimistic that these recent appointments, together with a focus on simulation services, will help Oleo to become an even bigger global influencer over the next few months.

"Our people are key to our success here at Oleo and we are delighted to have further diversified our internal infrastructure. Terry knows our company really well and brings extensive knowledge to his new role as Research Director. We are confident that he can really help to future proof our rail simulation software and help us introduce the application to other industries”.

“Peter Lee is a highly respected and experienced professional, with an excellent understanding of the effect of design on efficient manufacturing. He brings a number of skills to our engineering team and will help us grow our market offering for energy absorption technology in the rail, elevator and industrial markets at a very exciting time.
