Company expects
higher sales of winter goods with prediction of coldest season in decades
Betterware, one of the UK’s best known sellers of
housewares, have this week announced that they’re expecting a spike in sales for
winter-based products as forecasters boldly predict the coldest winter in decades.
Forecasters grabbed headlines last week when they cautioned
Britons to brace for up to five months of gales, heavy snow and below-freezing
temperatures, warning that transport and more could come to a halt.
It’s thought the country could see major snowfall by the end
of the month but the extreme weather is expected to peak in January, with some
claiming the mercury could fall to as low as -27 degrees celsius.
Forecaster for Exacta Weather, James Madden, said: “Over the
coming weeks and into November, it is likely to turn progressively colder even
very cold at times, in particular, in parts of the north as northern blocking
becomes a somewhat more prominent feature. This is likely to bring some
significant snow across higher ground within this period.
“This may also bring the first snow event of the season to
some much lower levels of the country, in particular, in some parts to the
north and east of the country, but these wintry weather events may also not
necessarily be restricted to just these parts, and some much lower levels of
the country could also experience their first taste of wintry weather for the
season in terms of overnight snow or developing wintry showers.”
But it’s not all doom and gloom because many businesses in
the UK are hopeful of something of a sales boom when the seasonal cold weather
does arrive.
Betterware, traditionally the country’s biggest door-to-door
seller but now also a prominent online retailer, is excited by the prospect of colder
weather, anticipating a torrent of interest in their winter products, from
Christmas decorations and gifts to de-icers and thermal gloves.
A spokesman for Betterware explained: “As has become almost
tradition at this time of year, there’s been plenty of bold and at times
farfetched weather predictions, but like many businesses in the UK we’re really
excited for the next few months whether it’s freezing or not.
“One of the things you can always count on when you shop at
Betterware is that we have something for everything and that will become
quickly apparent when you see our Christmas and winter product selection!”
The company says that they’ve already had a spike in
interest for similar products in September and October:
“In the last month we’ve already picked up on higher demand
for winter-friendly products. Sales for thermal gloves for example are really
high at the moment and with a bitterly cold winter expected we’re sure those
numbers will continue to rise in the coming months.”
