NOT JUST MICROSOFT: PIRATES A PROBLEM FOR UK IT INDUSTRY

New product makes it easier and more affordable to tackle online piracy.

Tadlow, Cambridgeshire, UK: 28 October 2014 - Online piracy is becoming an increasing risk to the IT industry, but you don't need Microsoft's budget to ensure your assets are safe, says the director of one of the UK's most successful companies specialising in the removal of pirated content from the Internet.

Online piracy is big business, with illegal copying of digital content costing the UK's creative industries £1 billion every year. A recent study found there were nine million cases of software being illegally downloaded in the UK over just three months last year, and other figures show more than 50% of the world's personal computer users admit to using pirated software.

DiCopSys, one of the UK's leading anti-piracy specialists, has launched OpenDCS to help combat this increasing problem. The free service will record, send DMCA notices, and monitor take down visibility of any copyright infringements that the user can find of their material. For a small charge users can also purchase ‘search credits' and gain access to the DiCopSys search engine, which will search the internet for pirated copies of the user's product.

Ian Noble, the director of DiCopSys says, "One of the most common arguments is that online piracy only results in small profit losses for large companies like Microsoft and Apple. However the reality is that online piracy adversely affects every industry, and severely impacts on the livelihoods of everyday people.

"The OpenDCS system allows anyone, whether that's an established software developer or someone just starting out in the industry, to take steps to remove illegally infringing content on the internet for an affordable price."

DiCopSys uses US and European legislation to seek out and serve take down notices to offending websites and individuals. Research has shown that the take down system is highly effective in tackling online piracy, and the company has an 81% success rate. In the past month DiCopSys has been ranked at 31st in the world for take down notices by Google.

As well as OpenDCS, DiCopSys also offers a fully Managed Service which users can upgrade to at any time.
