More Britons are planning to shop later and spend more this Christmas by making use of online shopping, a survey by NetDespatch has shown.

The study, which looked at the shopping habits of 2,000 British people, found that 88% intend to use the internet to do some or all of their Christmas shopping. It’s also predicted that the online Christmas sales forecast is worth £107 billion to the British economy, according to the IMGR-Capgemini eRetail Sales Index.

33% of respondents said that last year they spent between £151 and £500 when shopping online for the festive holiday, but 27% are planning to spend more this time round!

It was also found that 47% of women will have bought gifts by the end of October, 24% of people over the age of 55 won’t start Christmas shopping until December and 9% of men aren’t going to start buying gifts until a week before the 25^th December.

NetDespatch CEO, Becky Clark, said: “Our research shows that the habits and expectations of UK shoppers are changing. Interestingly, the younger generation appears to be most organised with a quarter planning to start shopping as early as September. However, over a quarter of overall respondents said they intend to leave their shopping until as late as November and over one fifth don’t intend to start until December.”
