London Stone, a
standout seller of natural stone in the UK, has commented on news that hard
landscaping materials are paving the way
Sales for hard landscaping jumped 27% this September
relative to figures from the same time last month, that’s according to recently
released figures on industry sales.
The figures, which are thought to be the consequence of
warmer weather this year, show that more people have taken to renovating and
looking after their garden in 2014.
Matthew Bent of Bents Garden & Home in Cheshire, says
that weather has played a role in rising sales.
“Weather is one of the biggest factors that affects garden
centre sales, and 2014 has been a fantastic year,” he said. “During the summer
months anything garden-related proved successful, from our plants and garden
care products to garden furniture and outdoor living. This trend continued
through to September as customers were keen to make the most of the continued
warmer weather.
Adding, “We, like most other garden centres, experienced
increased sales in garden furniture, accessories and outdoor lifestyle, with
figures significantly up on both budget and last year’s figures. It has been a
great end to the summer and further demonstrates the importance of good
weather!”
London Stone, a south east-based provider of natural stone
materials, also weighed in, agreeing that good weather plays it part but
arguing that the rise in hard landscaping material sales like stone is the
result of a great appreciation for quality materials.
“We’ve had a really nice, hot summer and that’s certainly
helped with sales, especially when you look at the weather in September,” a
spokesman said. “But it’s also true that natural stone and other hard
landscaping materials have increased in popularity massively over the last few
years because the quality of materials coming into this country is much better,
prices are more competitive and people appreciate the superior appearance and
durability of stone.”
So why would warm weather drive the sale of hard landscaping
goods? According to London Stone, it’s because people are less motivated to
care for their gardens in the winter month.
“As with general gardening, nobody wants to spend days,
weeks even, toiling away in rain, wind and snow. Installing new natural stone
is much easier to do in the summer months when you actually spend time in your
garden. When it comes to winter, many don’t pay as much attention to it as they
should and lack the motivation to make it look beautiful,” he said.
