The Broadway Collection News for November

November in America equates to one thing - Thanksgiving! For residents and visitors to the Big Apple there are countless other activities to see and do throughout the month.

One of the biggest events to take place in November is the New York Marathon. On the first weekend of the month, runners and visitors converge on the city to participate or cheer on athletes as they make their way through the five boroughs in a 26-mile race of sheer endurance. Changing the pace, a spectacle which will leave visitors of the city in awe is the first ever installation of the New York Festival of Lights. Foodie travelers can get a taste of street food culture at the recently opened "Vendy Plaza" at 115^thStreet and Park Avenue. Set in the cultural hub that is Harlem, visitors will be able to sample a variety of cuisines which took top prize at this year's "Vendy Awards". This includes dishes such as Waffles and Dinges, Zha Pan Asian, and more. The trucks will switch out weekly until they take their leave on November 23. Of course, a can't miss event in the city is the 88^thannual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (link to:http://social.macys.com/parade/#/home.) Beginning at 9:00am on Thursday, November 27^thvisitors and residents alike can watch live performances, dozens of floats and larger than life characters as they float through the streets of New York. More than 8,000 people participate in the parade which always includes Broadway performances, and kicks off from 77^thStreet and Central Park West then marches all the way to Macy's at Herald Square.

For those interested in free entertainment, the 16th AnnualBarn Series, which involves the readings of plays in early development, will run from November 4^th,November 6^thandNovember 9^th. Tickets will be available beginning at 6pm the day of each reading only at the Bank Street Theater box office. All performances are at 8pm. Tickets are released on first-come, first-served basis; there are no advanced ticket reservations. The Phantom of the Operarecently became the first ever show to celebrate 26 successful years on Broadway with many more to come! The international sensationWICKEDalso celebrated a milestone, and is now enjoying its eleventh anniversary on Broadway! Both shows are must-sees when travelling to NYC.

Josh Kaufman, winner of NBC'sThe Voice, has made his debut on Broadway as Pippin. Honeymoon in Vegas, a brand new musical with book by Andrew Bergman and score by Jason Robert Brown. The new musical is loads of fun and will interest younger audiences with references to today's pop culture. The show, which stars Tony Danza, will begin previews on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 for a Thursday, January 15, 2015 opening night at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). The Broadway revival is currently in previews and officially opens November 17^th, 2014 in its new home at the St. James Theater and will showcase new songs by Henry Krieger. The storyline revolves around conjoined twin sisters Violet and Daisy Hilton, who search for love and acceptance while performing on the Vaudeville circuit in the 1920's and 1930's.
