The rise was uncovered through a survey by The Great Britain Day and Overnights Company, as they compared percentage figures on how many UK trips were going to Wales. For overnight trips, a 1% increase since 2013 had been found, with 8.4 per cent of trips made in the UK being trips to Wales, between January and July 2014, compared to 7.4 per cent in 2013. A one per cent increase may seem minor, but with over 50 million trips from the UK made in seven months, the one per cent becomes a significant increase.

Baroness Randerson, the office minister for Wales, has found the increase in tourism to be a result of the country’s growing qualities saying: "We know what a fantastic product we have here in Wales, fascinating historic buildings, breath-taking coasts, first-class food and fabulously friendly people and we welcome the fact that people from across the UK are now appreciating that Wales is a great place to visit.’

And about 56 million people in the surveyed time period have been enjoying the sights and sounds of Wales. A nine per cent increase from 2013 has been seen in total and more than £1.4 billion pounds has been generated for Wales’s local economy.
