Robinson Polytunnels warns Gardeners over the Incoming Winter Weather

According to the Met Office, this winter is set to be one of the wettest the country has ever faced, and expert Polytunnel supplier and manufactuer, Robinson Polytunnels, have responded.

Study of the weather suggests this winter could be one of the country’s wettest, with conditions potentially set for powerful Atlantic Storms. Researchers suggest the bad weather is being carried over from the Atlantic due to stronger jet streams, which can reach up to 200 miles per hour. A Met Office spokesperson also suggests that the expected temperature decrease is due to high pressure and clear skies which allow heat to escape.

Mid-October to November saw mild temperatures for the UK, but it’s about to get a lot colder and wetter, potentially beating 2013, the wettest recorded in the UK since 1910. Temperatures are due to swiftly decrease and the rainfall has already began in some areas of the UK, namely the South and South-West of the country.

Emma Corrigan, Met Office forecaster, has said, ‘Places have been wetter than average in the past week and unsettled weather is expected to continue to the start of December,’ and ‘'Warnings have not issued but that may change, so people should monitor warnings.’ The Met Office will continue to study the ongoing trends of the weather over the course of winter, and it should be known by the end of November how wet we can expect the rest of the season to be, with the rainfall date they’ll have collected.

Robinson Polytunnel often respond to news which relates to the gardening industry they work in, and weather is a key issue which can affect gardeners across the country, but the company have assured that this need not be the case.

A representative for the company said ‘Bad weather can always put a downer on growing crops and plants, but there are methods in place to help you grow under any conditions. Anyone looking to grow this winter should invest in a polytunnel, which is a garden structure that protects rows of plants from harmful conditions. It’s ideal all year round, but particularly useful for the increasingly wet winters we’ve been experiencing.’

The representative for Robinson Polytunnels also discussed why polytunnels are suitable for any gardener to use over the winter season. ‘Polytunnels have increasingly become a norm over the years, due to the affordability and practicality of the structures. The materials used to support the tunnels are, at least in our case, galvanised, which makes for a strong sturdy structure. Conditions can even be tweaked inside to allow for faster growth speeds.’
