Silverstone beckons as Warter pupils win Lifestyle prize

A group of Year 6 boys from Warter School are celebrating after winning a major prize in the Humberside Police Lifestyle 2014 competition.

The ‘Warter Five' were awarded their prizes of a day trip to Silverstone at aglittering Awards ceremony at Hull City Hall that was attended by over 1,200 people.

The boys, Ted Baty, Lucas Gardner, Devlin Hunt, Johnny Raper and Arthur Whelan cleared an area of woodland in the Pocklington village of Nunburnholme to create a haven for wildlife as their project. They were supported by Sam Gardner as the adult adviser and Hull ethical company Bio-D who provided a picnic bench.

Sam, mother of Lucas, 10, said: "The boys worked so hard to realise the vision that they had for the Jubilee Plantation and made an excellent job of their log book.

"In addition to clearing the Jubilee Plantation, the boys held an open afternoon where they showed villagers the work that they had done. They boys were very proud to receive verypositive feedback from the villagers."

Alison Metcalfe is the Acting Head Teacher at the Ofsted ‘Outstanding' rated Warter School and attended the awards ceremony with the boys' class teacher, Caela Storrs: "It was a joy to see the boys receive their well-deserved prize. It was a wonderful evening and we were amazed at the range and quality of the projects that the children had undertaken."

Cottingham team ‘Born this Way' were crowned overall Lifestyle 2014 champions by Chief Constable Justine Curran, QPM and won a trip to Florida.
