Manchester Hog King, a prominent hog roast caterer in the
North West, has responded to a report from one of the UK’s leading supermarket,
Sainsbury’s, suggesting that product freshness will play a key role in
determining buying trends.
Sainsbury’s, a prominent Freedom Foods retailers, stocking a
total of 280 RSPCA-approved products,
made the claim after remarking on a 6% fall in their pre-tax profits in
the 28 weeks up to the 27th of September.
They warned that supermarkets across the board are likely to
fall in the coming years, arguing that more British consumers have an appetite
for fresher foods, including meats.
In a report, Sainsbury’s said: “While the food and grocery
products customers buy are largely the same today as they were 10 years ago,
the way customers shop for them has changed significantly over the past five
years. From 2009, the recession and a squeeze on household income led to
customers shopping more frequently and buying fewer items on each occasion,
controlling their budgets and reducing waste.
“We expect to see further growth in the number of visits to
stores from customers who are buying food for today, for tonight or for just a
couple of days, while visits from customers doing a full weekly shop will
continue to decline.”
This increase in shop visits is leading to more people
buying fresher produce, leading to the company pledging to strengthen its
increase on quality and sustainability: “All our fresh, breaded and cooked
chicken is from the UK, as is fresh pork and fresh lamb in the main season. Our
fresh and frozen beef, and beef used in fresh ready meals, pies, sandwiches,
quiches and soups is British or Irish.”
Sainsbury’s found lots of support for their claims, not
least of which from the farming community.
Manchester Hog King, a hog roast caterer and machine hire
company, often give their thoughts on related industry news.
A spokesman for the company said: “Fresh, locally reared
food, meat especially, has been in high demand for a long time now and it’s not
unsurprising to see this slowly being reflected by supermarket shelves.
“People want their meat fresh, they want it reared by local
farmers and they want it reared ethically. That’s why so many people in the
North West choose us to cater at their events, because it doesn’t get any
better than our whole roasted juicy, fresh Manchester pigs served with homemade
stuffing, apple sauce and freshly baked bread!”
Manchester Hog King uses fresh produce for all of their
events, cooking up delicious foods for everything from birthdays to weddings.
