ENJOY DECEMBER IN NEW YORK

AND CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH A BROADWAY SHOW

What To Do In The Big Apple Next Month

‘New York, New York, it's a helluva town' - to celebrate Christmas in.

December in New York is arguably unlike anything you'll ever experience. There are countless free activities for travelers to take part in which perfectly complement going to Broadway shows in the evening.

For anyone getting there early in the month, one of the first and most well-known wintry experiences in New York is the annual Rockefeller Centre Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. This year the 82ndceremony will take place on December 3rd between 7pm and 9 pm.

Thousands of locals and international travelers will crowd the sidewalks between 5th and 7th Avenues and 47th and 50th Streets to be a part of the magic that is this tradition known around the globe. Five miles of sparkly lights will be strung around a towering tree and celebrities will make appearances as a Swarovski crystal is set atop the tree.

Then, if you need to warm up after standing around for a while, there's a great skating rink close by at the Rockefeller Plaza. It's a real must-do for your first Christmas trip to New York.

Or, if you've been before, you might opt to skate at Bryant Park instead where costs are lower and lines are shorter.

Of course travelers and locals alike always delight in the Rockettes winter extravaganza, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Whether it's your first or fiftieth time in the city, this holiday tradition just doesn't seem to get old. See The Rockettes in action at:

Heading back towards Broadway, we can recall that the famous line: ‘New York, New York, it's a helluva town' came from the 1944 musical ‘On The Town' with music by Leonard Bernstein which, as a happy coincidence, is one of this season's smash hit musicals on Broadway in the form of:On The Town: A Helluva Musicalto be found at The Lyric theatre. A perfect New York holiday treat.

Another good reason to head towards Broadway in December is that the perennial success: Wicked, is welcoming a number of new stars in December to refresh the look of the show at the Gershwin Theatre.
