46
year old cancer survivor, Paula Lamb, has donated her hair to the Little
Princess Trust to help young people suffering with hair loss, and UK hair
transplant company FUE have commented on this charitable event.
After
surviving a battle with cervical cancer for six years, Paula decided to have
her locks snipped with her plait donated to the Little Princess Trust. She was
lucky enough to have the cancer spotted early enough so she didn’t have to go
through the process of chemotherapy, but others aren’t so lucky and suffer
radical hair loss. The donation of her hair will be put towards making wigs for
children, which offers a short term relief to having no hair.
Paula
decided to help young people after seeing her nephew lose his hair due to
chemotherapy when trying to treat cancer for his eyes, and she said ‘He has a
rare cancer called retinoblastina, so I’ve witnessed a young child battle
cancer in my own family and chemotherapy’s inevitable side effects.’ Another
reason for going through with the donation was due to also having two children
of her own. ‘I have two teenagers, so I understand how important image and hair
is to them.’
FUE
Hair Clinics keep in the loop on hair loss and restoration related news topics,
and have commented on Paula’s contribution. ‘Cancer is a terrible disease many
have to go through, and losing all your hair only adds to the grief and pain
experienced through cancer. The wigs should help the children cope a little
better with what they’re going through, and after they’ve made it through the
ordeal, they can grow their hair back via a hair transplant or hair tattooing.
There is a ton of support and help for those who’ve been through the worst of
diseases.’
The
FUE spokesperson further elaborated, ‘We’ve helped a number of patients who’ve
suffered with cancer over the years, and it breaks our hearts to see the
ravages of such a disease. To help we’ve hosted competitions in the past, which
have been incredibly moving yet uplifting experiences as we offer help to those
who’ve been hit the hardest.’
