KU Leuven University Study Shows E-cigarettes Reduce Tobacco Cravings, i-Breathe Responds

E-cigarette suppliers, i-Breathe, have commented on a recent study from KU Leuven University which has demonstrated that e-cigarettes do successfully reduce tobacco cravings.

Forty eight volunteers were used to formulate the results, and each participant was a smoker with no desire to quit. The group were split into three groups, with two e-cigarette groups, who also had access to smoking tobacco cigarettes as well as the e-cigs for the first two months, and another group who only had access to tobacco for the same amount of time. This was the first phase of the experiment.

The second phase mixed things up, by giving the tobacco exclusive group e-cigarettes and each volunteer was monitored over a six month time span, with a web tool to keep track of smoking and vaping habits, as the participants input data on their day to day experiences.

Once the study, totalling eight months, came to an end, the results revealed that 21 per cent of the participants had abandoned smoking tobacco altogether, and 23 per cent had drastically cut down on tobacco usage by half in some cases.

All groups studied displayed similar result, and Professor Frank Baeyens determined that e-cigarettes can act as a successful healthier replacement to smoking, helping with reductions in smoking or quitting altogether.

i-Breathe, who often comment on e-cigarette industry news, responded to this study, and a spokesperson for the company said, ‘This survey shows what a great invention the e-cigarette is in helping people quit the dangerous habit of smoking. Smoking is enjoyable for many, with nicotine being a great source for stimulation, but many fall foul to the horrid side effects which build up over the years. An e-cig smoker can enjoy smoking without any of the negative side effects, and can even enhance their smoking experience with a range of flavours, from fruit to sweet flavoured e-liquids!

The study proves that e-cigarettes can wean people off smoking and the rising sales show that many people want to quit, and can thanks to e-cigs. The recent television advert shows just how far they’ve come in such a short space of time, and I feel the rise in e-cig users is going to keep on going up, which is great for people’s health.’
