London based BB and airsoft gun company, Just BB Guns, recently commented on the opening of Gunsmoke Paintballing, near Layer Marney, which aims to bring paintball and airsoft players onto the field.

The site, which opened on the 30^th November 2014, took three years to come to fruition, due to rows over the wildlife on the site delaying any decisions until May 2013. The Essex Wildlife Trust had concerns over the fear that any paintball or airgun battles going on could lead to animal harm.

The plans were eventually given the go ahead in 2013 from the Colchester Council, which was influenced by the talks between Gunsmoke Paintball and the Essex Wildlife Trust. Andrew Wright was in charge of making the site happen, and put in £100,000 to make his dream come to life, building a new building, shop and layout for the two gun based sports.

The first stage of Andrew Wright’s building, was to clean up the 31 acre land, which took six months of the eighteen months overall build time. He said, ‘It’s been a long three years to get to this stage and I don’t think we can believe it is finally here. We have been running a site in Suffolk for ten years, so to finally be able to open this one is brilliant.’

A scheme for their Suffolk site has also been planned, with the hopes to give troubled kids a day of skirmishes, with the help of the council and police.
