A558 / A553

Closure of hard shoulder from westbound Daresbury Expressway to Bridgewater Expressway, for main works.

7/1/15 - 9/1/15

A562

Northbound lane 1 closure from Queensway to Speke Road, from 9:30am to 3:30pm for site clearance work.

7/1/15 - 21/1/15

A533

Southbound lane 1 closure on Ditton Flyover, from 9:30am to 3:30pm for site clearance work.

15/1/15 - 21/1/15

A557

Eastbound closure of lane 1 to cover both sides of the Hutchinson Overbridge, over the Queensway, from 9:30m to 3:30pm for site clearance work.

Work continues between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, and between 7am and 5pm Saturday and Sunday,along the Weston Point Expressway heading towards the M56 Junction 12. The road is down to one lane southbound as it approaches the roundabout / junction. Work is expected to continue until summer 2015.

This is causing severe traffic queues of up to 1.5 hours from the Silver Jubilee Bridge towards the M56 and we would encourage people to either try to find an alternative route or to allow plenty of time to get through the roadworks.

Editors Notes:

About the project

The Mersey Gateway Project will be one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in the UK over the coming years. Last year Mersey Gateway was identified as one of the UK government's Top 40 priority projects in theNational Infrastructure Planand it has been recognised by KPMG as one of the‘Top 100 infrastructure projects around the globe'.

Its features will include:

  • a 1,000m long cable stay bridge consisting of four spans supported from three towers in the estuary;
  • a unique design where the 80m high central tower will be shorter than the two outer towers, which will be 110m (north tower) and 125m (south tower);
  • a total length (including the bridge and approach viaducts) of 2.13km;
  • a deck carrying six lanes of traffic (three in each direction) with a speed limit of 60mph;
  • up to 30 supporting piers carrying it across the approach viaducts; and
  • a curved approach at each end of the bridge giving varying views of its unique design and maximising its visual impact.

    *Residents of Halton will still need to register to use the bridges and there will be a small charge for this.
